Mission
Be the stewards of a productive urban fishery for future generations of the community through a fun new way of conservation.
What we do
We organize a yearly community cleanup and Fly-Fishing Tournament on the Truckee River, NV. With stewardship being an inseparable aspect of outdoor recreation, competitors must participate in the cleanup in order to enter the tournament. Members of the local and outdoor community are encouraged to participate in the cleanup even without interest in the fishing tournament. In 2021, thanks in part to some amazing sponsors, the Truckee River Trash and Cast engaged over 30 volunteers and removed an entire 20-yard dumpster of waste from the banks of the river.
Cleanup
Any person wishing to compete in the Fly-Fishing tournament must participate in the cleanup. The goal of the cleanup is to completely remove all trash and refuse from the riparian area around Mustang, Nv. This area is a popular fishing destination, as well as a section of the river that builds up a large amount of litter from the residents of the Truckee Meadows.
To incentivize the community to aid in the river cleanup, a raffle is held for various prizes donated by our gracious sponsors. Every individual that participates in the cleanup will receive a raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are also available for a $5 donation.
tournament
The tournament is designed as a fun way to embrace conservation. It is a Fly-Fishing focused event to with an emphasis on safe fish catching practices and techniques. There are multiple prize categories with the most important being, “Safest Fish Handling.” Our goal with the tournament is to create an enjoyable and interactive experience for sustainable fishery education.
Donations
What Your Donation Does:
Monetary and product donations are both very helpful in reaching our goals. Monetary donations will help with the initial overhead such as building and maintaining our website, permitting, garbage removal service, and purchasing prizes. Product donations will be used directly as prizes for both the tournament and the cleanup raffle.
All funds raised from the event support the river conservation and stewardship programs of Trout Unlimited, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving cold water fisheries. The more donations we receive, the more incentive there is for community members to participate.
What Your Donation Means:
Every donor will be spotlighted through our advertising outlets including online social media pages, flyers, promotional videos, and event banners. Your customers will know that you are committed to a clean and healthy Truckee River ecosystem, and your donation helps ensure that Trout Unlimited can continue their important work.
We want all businesses, big and small, to be thoroughly recognized in helping to create such an impactful event.
